Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
-
Yes. I offer a free 20-minute consultation so we can talk about what’s bringing you to counselling and see if we’re a good fit, before you commit to a full session.
-
You can book directly online through the booking portal Janeapp. If you’d rather talk first, feel free to email or call me with any questions.
-
Our first session is a chance to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what’s bringing you to counselling, I’ll ask some questions about your history and goals, and you’ll have space to ask me anything too. There’s no pressure to share more than feels comfortable.

Questions about Counselling
-
These three professions differ mainly in training and what they’re able to do:
A psychiatrist is a Medical Doctor who can diagnose mental health conditions and prescribe medication. In BC, psychiatrist visits are typically covered by MSP.
A psychologist has advanced graduate training (often a doctorate) and can conduct psychological testing and formally diagnose mental health conditions, alongside providing therapy. In BC, “psychologist” is a legally protected title, regulated by the College of Psychologists of BC.
A counsellor or therapist, like a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), has graduate-level training focused on talk therapy and relational support. I work alongside diagnoses made by physicians or psychologists, but counselling itself is often more accessible and typically has shorter wait times.
-
Yes. Confidentiality is the cornerstone of therapy. What you share in sessions is confidential, with a few legally required exceptions, such as risk of harm to yourself or others, or situations involving child safety. I’ll walk you through this in more detail in our first session
-
Strive2Thrive Counselling isn’t a crisis service. If you’re in crisis or thinking about suicide, please call or text 988 (the Canada Suicide Crisis Helpline), available 24/7, or go to your nearest emergency room.
