Couples and Family Counselling in Coquitlam, BC
Sessions for couples and families to rebuild communication, repair trust, and reconnect with each other.
Couples/Relationship Counselling
Relationships go through hard seasons — communication breaks down, trust gets shaken, or you simply feel like roommates instead of partners. Couples counselling gives you both a guided space to be heard, understand each other’s patterns, and find your way back to connection.
Who this is for:
Ongoing conflict or communication breakdown
Feeling disconnected or like you’ve grown apart
Navigating a major life change together (a new baby, blending families)
Pre-marital preparation
My approach: I draw primarily from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Gottman approaches, which focus on the emotional bond underneath conflict, not just the surface argument. We dedicate time in session to learning about your negative cycle, communication patterns, challenges, and stressors in the relationship.
A lot of our work is spent on identifying the markers of the negative cycle, unlearning our negative or existing communication patterns, and practising healthy and meaningful ways to connect, communicate, and meet each other’s needs.
Session details: Extended sessions are available for couples wanting more time and space to talk. A free 20-minute consultation helps us confirm fit before you begin.
Family Therapy
When a rupture happens between family members, it rarely stays contained to just the two people involved — it moves through the whole system. Communication breaks down, other family members feel pulled to take sides, and the overall stress and anxiety in the household rises, even for those who weren’t part of the original conflict. I take a family systems approach, which means I look at the family as a whole rather than treating any one person as “the problem” to be fixed.
Who this is for:
Parent-child conflict that’s affecting the whole household
Siblings caught in the middle of a rupture
Blended families navigating new roles and loyalties
Extended family tension spilling into daily life
Families wanting to rebuild trust and connection after a difficult period
My approach: In family work, I typically begin by meeting with the whole family together, so I can see how everyone interacts and where the strain is showing up. From there, I meet individually with each member to understand the strengths and challenges they bring to the system, what each person needs, and what they’re carrying. We then come back together to work on communication and repair, with the goal of helping the family function as a unit again, rather than continuing to turn against each other.
